Add a dashboard filter

You can add filters to a dashboard, which can affect all tiles or just specific tiles. Dashboard filters allow users to narrow a dashboard's results to only the data they are interested in.

When viewing a dashboard, a user can temporarily update dashboard filter values, which doesn't affect any other users.

Note:
  • Dashboard filters override filters applied to a visualization tile when both types of filters are filtering on the same field. For workarounds to avoid this behavior, see this knowledge base article (login required).
  • For dashboards that include multiple Explores, for example, multiple surveys or a Touchpoint activity and profile variables, you can only filter on an Explore's fields if it is used in a visualization on the dashboard.
  1. In an existing dashboard, click the Dashboard actions button on the top right of the page and then, select Edit dashboard.
  2. Select Filters > Add Filter.
  3. In the Add Filters dialog, browse for, or search for the dimension or measure you want to filter on.
  4. In the Settings tab, configure the following options.

    Label Description
    1 Title

Enter a title for how you want the filter to appear on the dashboard.

    2 Control

Select from a list of control types. Each varies depending on the data. The following types are available:

    Multiple selection:

    • Button Group: Provides a set of limited options. Up to 30 options can be displayed.
    • Checkboxes: Similar to Button Group, this option provides a set of limited options. Up to 50 options can be selected.
    • Tag List: A combination of a drop down list and checkbox filters. Select values in the Values section.
    • Range Slider: Set the minimum and maximum by adjusting both ends of the slider.

    Single Selection:

    • Radio Buttons: Similar to Button Group, this option provides a set of limited options. Up to 50 options can be selected.
    • Button Toggles: Provides a set of limited options. Up to 30 options can be displayed.
    • Dropdown Menu: Drop-down options can be set in the Values section. The drop down list can be expanded and an option can be selected or typed into the box to narrow down options.
    • Slider: Set the minimum and maximum by adjusting both ends of the slider.

    Date and Times:

    • Single Day: Viewers click the date to expand the calender and select a day.
    • Date Range: Click a date range to expand the calendar and select a new date range.
    • Timeframes: Select from the preset timeframes or customize your own. Options such as Last 7 Days includes the current day. To set a timeframe that excludes the current day, select Advanced.

    Other:

    • Advanced: This filter can be applied to all data types. With string data, conditional statements can be used and with date and time data, values can be narrowed down.
    3 Display

Select how filters are displayed. If a control can only be displayed one way, options will not appear. The following options are available:

    • Inline: The filter is displayed in the top bar of the dashboard.
    • Popover: Summary value appears in the top bar of the dashboard
    4 Values

Select specific value options for the filter. Choose from the drop down list or enter the value option in the field. Min and Max fields replace the drop down list for numeric data.

    5 Configure Default Value

Set the default value for the filter.

    6 Additional options

    Two additional options are available.

    • Require a filter value: Select the checkbox to require a value for the filter.
    • Select filters to update when this filter changes: Link other filters to this filter. The parent filter that narrows another filter's option can be any data type. However, a child filter, the filter that is narrowed, can only be string types. Measures, such as Count and Percent, cannot be a child filter.
  5. In the Tiles to Update tab, configure the following options.

    Label Description
1 Choose the tiles to update.

Click All to select all of the tiles listed, select None to deselect all of the tiles listed, or click on individual tile icons to select or deselect them.
