The Configurable Dashboard workflow
Learn more about what the configurable dashboard workflow looks like from a high-level perspective.
For information on best practices for creating and customizing dashboards, see the blog post on building effective dashboards.
1. Create your dashboard
Choose the appropriate workflow for your needs and create your dashboard:
- New Dashboard workflow: The best option when working with larger surveys, and profile variables, where performance and real-time streaming of data is the priority. For information on the New Dashboard workflow, see Create a New Dashboard.
- Classic Dashboard workflow: The best option for continuing to create dashboards in a familiar way, when you want to create a dashboard from a template, or when you require a feature, such as CSV upload, which is not yet supported in the New Dashboard workflow. For information on the Classic Dashboard workflow, see Creating Classic Dashboards.
For more information on choosing between the two workflows, see Choosing between New Dashboards and Classic Dashboards.
2. Add tiles to your dashboard
- Visualization tiles: Use these tiles to present data to your audience. These are the charts and graphs that provide the key information in your dashboard.
- Text tiles: Use these tiles to supplement or provide context for your visualization tiles. You can use HTML and Markdown to format these tiles.
- Button tiles: Use these tiles to link to supplementary details or documentation that is not included in the dashboard.
Adding the tiles you need is one of the main tasks in creating your dashboard. When creating New Dashboards, and often when creating Classic Dashboards, you start with a blank dashboard and add the tiles you need. However, certain Classic Dashboard templates, such as the Text Analytics and Net Promoter Score℠1, are automatically populated with visualization tiles that you can use as is, remove, or customize.
3. Edit your visualization tiles
Editing your visualization tiles is a key step in presenting the appropriate data for your audience. You can select the data (dimensions and measures) to include, add filters to narrow down the results included, and create your own fields when required. You can also select the type of visualization that best matches your results, and fully customize its appearance.
4. Share your dashboard
When your dashboard is complete you can share it with internal and external stakeholders.
- To share your dashboard with other users of the Analytics app, you need to publish your dashboard. Access to the dashboard is controlled by the access settings assigned to the dashboard.
- To make your dashboard available to external users, you can create a public share link for the dashboard, and send the link to the external users.
- To send the dashboard directly to individual users, you can email it to them. You can send the email immediately or set up a schedule in advance.
You can also download a dashboard or a tile and share the information in another format, such as presentation slides or a document.
